About Julie McElmurry

Julie in Free Expression tunnel 2

Lotsa people love St. Francis and St. Clare so I am hoping this blog will serve to introduce people to the great writings they left for us.

My name is Julie and I am a happily married lay woman. We have recently moved to Charlotte North Carolina from Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

For nine summers, I studied in graduate school and returned to my role as a campus minister each August. I earned the M.S. in Religion and Religious Education from Fordham University in The Bronx, NY and the M.A. in Franciscan Studies from St. Bonaventure University.  I love teaching and leading retreats on the writings of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi. I have been doing so since 2010 under the auspices of Franciscan Passages, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit.

From 1999-2010, I  served the Catholic Diocese of Charlotte, NC as a Catholic Campus Minister alongside Conventual Franciscan friars.  I was appointed to serve at Wake Forest University and Salem College. Before that, I served for one year in a  Catholic Volunteer Network program where I lived in a Hartford ghetto and worked at a homeless shelter for teen girls. Before that, I traveled around the world as a solo, budget-conscious backpacker, which has been my richest education so far.

Thanks for reading my blog. My goal is to provide a variety of reflections and to neatly tie them into a writing of St. Francis  or St. Clare. I look forward to reading from your comments and learning from you.

Peace,

Julie McElmurry, Director, Franciscan Passages
